As children, we are all artists. I was very lucky to be surrounded by people who always encouraged me to pursue my art, right from when I can remember. I was sent to drawing classes even before I joined school and started Sculpture when I was in the 6th grade. I thank all the people who supported and encouraged me and continue to do so, as I owe it to all of them.
I studied Ceramics Design in the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad between 1996 to 2001. Having spent almost 25 years doing ceramic art and design, here in India, a lot of work has bee done and too little have been shared. So here is an attempt to put some of that work together, along with some of the processes that I have seen through.
My projects include explorations with musical instruments and sounds, craft development exercises for traditional rural potter communities, teaching and conducting various projects at NID, teaching skills in handcrafting for people of varying age groups at my own studio in Goa and works for museums, restaurants, hotels and homes. I have participated in a few gallery shows and launched my own gallery in 2021 – Thomas the Potter, at Panjim, Goa, where most of my current work are displayed.
I hope you enjoy the work as much as I enjoy making it.
